Teatime of DOOOOOM

I apparently have gained a reputation for adding "of DOOOOOM" to mundane concepts. Styleygeek has even taken to quoting me (I think Anastasia has done it too).

And now, if you'll now excuse me, I have to go do some final work for next week's fundraiser auction... of DOOOOOM. I've totally been an Auction-Organising Superhero this week: I stood up to student government bullies who were using our auction as an opportunity to shake down our department's grad students for a whole lot of money (in exchange for "waiving our fees" for booking a room in their building, because "waiving our fees" by charging us more money makes sense). I then got that same student government to turn around and kick in some of their own money for food for the auction! All it took was a bunch of running back and forth between university buildings, camping out in a director's office, and calling some bluffs. (I spent a lot of Monday using the word "non-negotiable.")

(I need to stop resting on my laurels after that one success: I find I've been procrastinating more than usual because I feel so pleased with myself.)

I'm not even going to comment on our student government.... It's nice to know that the GSS is looking out for the interests of Graduate Students rather than just making money. Blah. Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...

Andi: you haven't even heard the whole story. We'll have to talk.

Kristin Dos Santos has taken to calling Amy Poehler's untitled new show "Amy Poehler: Beyond Thunderdome".

Now, the real question is: did you get your tendency to say "of DOOOOM" from playing Munchkin? Geekiness infects you further MA... :)

Mark: I only played Munchkin with you once! And I've been saying "of DOOOOM" since long before that. I started saying it the summer that we all went to Good Spirit Lake for the IV Camping trip; one of the names for the tub of camping supplies was the TUB OF DOOM. ("Magic Tub" held on much better.) When I was staying in a cabin at church camp that summer, I also named the changing area I created with towels (because people kept swinging open the door whenever I was changing) my DEN OF DOOM and made up a song about it to the tune of the Superman theme song.

That was a long explanation. And a strange one.
