Likes: Long Walks on the Beach...

Walking to the beach was clearly the best idea I've had all day. Okay, a close second was "let's make broccoli soup for supper, and make enough that we have plenty for when Shannon arrives on Thursday." But the walk to the beach? Was awesome. It was gorgeous outside today.

It turned out that everyone else had the same idea of walking to the beach, and so I decided to follow the trail that my friend Rebecca recommended. (Chris was very jealous, because he wanted to discover what was at the end of the trail himself.) It turns out that the trail takes you through a park that winds along the ocean, above the beach, and goes out to Cattle Point (which is an oddly prosaic name). And I love Cattle Point, I have discovered. I wish I had taken my camera. It's this high and craggy look-out point, with various places to wander, and a bunch of commemorative park benches facing the best views. I sat for a long time on a bench in memory of a man named Jim Harrison, a bench that was near the cliff and faced toward Mt. Baker. It was beautiful. The wind raced all around me as I watched the waves and the mountains. I love the ocean.

As I walked back to the beach, past the parking lot where people were parked to eat their lunches and watch the ocean, I passed by a silver convertible (with its top down), wherein a silver-haired couple was kissing! At lunchtime! With people everywhere! Apparently, I'm more prudish than this town's senior population is. (And none of you are surprised.)

I'm so envious that you live near a beach. It sounds like you had a lovely walk!

I love broccoli soup! Thursday can't come soon enough. And we'll take lots of pictures when we go to Cattle Point this weekend!

I'm jealous about this Cattle Point. I'm going to have to come back to Victoria, and that's all there is to it.
