Funny thing happened while I was obsessively checking my e-mail...

Now that I've e-mailed my prof (he was away from the phone), informing him that I'm sick and won't be able to present this afternoon, I find myself obsessively checking to see if he got the e-mail. I have this horrible fear that he'll have no idea that I'm at home sick, and then he'll think badly of me when I don't show up for class. And disappointing one of my profs is high up on the list of my fears.

But, while I compulsively hitting "check mail," a message arrived from the organizers of the conference in September! And, while the message was almost entirely in German (Dr. B and External Examiner are really making sure I'm practising my German reading), the subject line was "acceptance of proposal"! I'm going to Regina in September! And my panel might have people that I've cited in my thesis!

And so there are benefits to obsessively checking one's e-mail. (Don't remind me that I wouldn't gotten the message anyway. This is a definite pick-me-up on this day when my head feels like it's imploding.)
