Call it "I'm approaching my thirtieth birthday and needed to do something spontaneous." Call it "I now have gone to the same hairdresser long enough that I trust her to do whatever she thinks looks good." Call it "I've been reading old-timey German on microfilm and was starting to feel haggard."
I got a lot of hair cut off today. A lot. I love it, but am also totally neurotic about it. (This comes as a surprise to no one, correct?)
Here it is:
So short, right? It feels so much better, since it had been an impossible length for a while, and I'd started putting it in strange pigtails while I was working. I was thinking it was a little Dooce.
But then I started watching 30 Rock and it occurred to me: do I have the same haircut as Kenneth Parcell?
Here's the comparison, using a slightly different shot of my haircut (brushed to the side differently):
Right? Right?
(Don't worry: I still love my haircut. And at least it isn't the Bieber.)

That chapter + hair-blogging
Hey, remember That Chapter That Won't Die? It no longer deserves its name! Yesterday, I sent off That Chapter to Dr. Supervisor, and can finally move on with my life. And by "move on with my life," I mean that I've already started working on another chapter, but I picked an easier chapter this time.
And by "already started working," I mean that today I looked through a few books, took a few more out of the library, made a bit of an outline, and then spent more than an hour trying to figure out how to do my hair for Andrea's wedding on Saturday.
I think I might do something like this (which takes much more work than you'd think, considering the fact that my hair has absolutely no curl to it, and doesn't hold curl very well):
So, after sending off That Chapter, and struggling to come up with enough ideas and analysis to make this chapter Not Embarrassingly Short, this morning I woke up and had three good ideas for that chapter. After it was already sent off. After I finally sent it off and relaxed, then my brain started working again. But I won't worry about that; there will be many revisions, and I can add those ideas in later. In the meanwhile, I wrote down my ideas and moved on to writing about Berlin women.

So... (aka More Hair-Blogging)
In the end, we decided against bangs after all, but to have the hair swoop across my forehead a little. Here's what it looks like in the back:

Return of the Compulsive Hair-Blogging
So, Anastasia's planning on cutting off all her hair, and I've been feeling tempted to do the same thing. I haven't had a haircut since the week before my brother's wedding (last summer), because I've been too lazy about figuring out a hairdresser in this city. First, I only got my hair cut whenever I went home (back when I went home more than once a year). Then, I went to one place in town that was not too expensive, but hairdresser said "I'm going to give you some layers" and proceeded to give me "the Rachel" more than a decade too late. And then I went to someone recommended by my fabulous hairdresser back home, and while I got a fabulous haircut, it was so expensive that I haven't been able to afford to do that more than once a year. I ended up getting my hair cut at my salon back home in the summer, and then I've been procrastinating from figuring out anything else ever since.
But I'm going to be brave: I'm going to the salon on campus. A couple of my friends have gone there now, and even the cost of getting a "senior stylist" is affordable (especially because they offer a discount for students). I made an appointment to get my hair cut by the salon's manager, because the website says that she specialises in fine hair.
I'm even getting braver: I'm going to talk with her about the possibility of getting bangs. This will require me to get my hair cut more frequently than once a year, and I'm getting tired of the Vast Expanse of Forehead that I've had since grade 9.
But it's scary, because the last time I had bangs, they looked like this:
Or this:
I just want light bangs, and maybe something that slopes to the side. But I need reassurance that I won't end up looking like this:
Here's the most recent picture of my hair (and sorry Ky for putting a picture of you as well, but I can't figure out how to crop you out):
What do you think? Cut to chin-length with light slope-y bangs?
