Made of my nightmares

Chris showed me this video, of an invention called the Funktionide Blob, that he found on one of his favourite websites. Seriously: you need to watch this thing and tell me what you think of it. (It's a robot that's supposed to help depressed people by curing loneliness.)

I have to agree with Technovelgy's editor who commented, "I really have to disagree with Funktionide creator Stefan Ulrich; a blob that crawls into bed with you is really not going to make me relax."

While it looks pretty freaky, I can actually sort of see the appeal--it's like a pet, but it doesn't need to eat, it's quiet, and it doesn't poo. I have a feeling it would probably help me sleep to have a giant, breathing, white blob in bed with me.

Now that I've called it a giant, white, breathing blob in bed with me, though, I'm actually a little afraid of it.

The "breathing" looks realistic, but the whole thing is a bit disturbing. Actually, though, the human guy in the video creeped me out more than the blob. It is all about context, I guess.

Yeah, it's the breathing part that creeped me out. And the dude in the video. And the fact that it slimed its way onto his bed. HOW DID IT KNOOOW HE WAS THEEERE?

I think the music in the video was supposed to be "comforting" but I think I would more call it "haunting."
