On the verge

I'm so close to being ABD. This time tomorrow, comps will all be over. After that, all that's left is the dissertation. Sure, there are a lot of steps within that (mastering German, finding funding, putting together a historiography before I go away for the summer, lots of reading, traveling to Germany, writing forever), but I'll finally be doing what I want to be doing. No more of this insane pace that I had to set with coursework and comps. (Don't remind me of the different pace and the constant guilt that is thesis-writing. I remember. Just let me have my moment.)

This time tomorrow, I'll be able to let go for a while. I'll be able to take back this pile of books. I'll go get a massage and get the comps worked out of my back. I'll clean and I'll bake. Oh, how I'll bake.

And this summer it won't have to be a working vacation while I'm in Saskatchewan. At Camp, I won't have to hide during the afternoons so that I can get reading done. I can actually be where I am.

I just have to get through the oral exam.
