Today's a snow day in Victoria! If this sort of snow hit Regina, people would just bundle up a little tighter, be thankful that the temperature's still above -10 Celsius, and maybe put a shovel in the trunk, in case they get stuck in a deep part.
But, of course, Regina owns snow plows. And a blizzard in Regina doesn't normally knock out all the city's power. At least our own power came back on before bedtime, unlike 24,000 other homes in the city. The University's closed, and and even Chris's work is shut down. (It helps that the buses aren't running, and the RCMP's recommending that you don't drive on the Pat Bay Highway, aka The Only Way To Get To His Work.)
But, seriously, it does not look like the West Coast (and especially Canada's Most Sheltered City) outside. It looks like Saskatchewan at Christmastime, and -- as a result -- I've been playing Christmas music, baking corn muffins, and will be putting up our decorations right away. Yesterday, the second we got home from church, we dug out all the winter gear that we didn't leave in Saskatchewan, and built a snowman. We were far too proud of ourselves for owning long johns.
After the storm we had last night, this is what it looked like this morning:
As one of our old ladies said, when we looked outside after church and discovered that the roads were covered in several inches of snow, "I don't know what city that is outside, but it sure isn't Victoria."

HAPPY SNOW DAY! I am so jealous at the fact the city shuts down over a small amount of snow. I would actually hate to see the amount of snow that would need to fall in order for a snow day to happen here!

Matt, when I'm in Saskatchewan, can I just cook a whole bunch of stuff and freeze it for you?
I am SO J-E-A-L-O-U-S! We might get 1/2 inch of snow some time in Jan/Feb. MAYBE.
But the roads will definately close and the city will shut down when it does.
Kristiface, that's what's normal for here, too. Last winter, the most we got was MAYBE 1/2 an inch, and it melted by the end of the day.
Whee! And he is a very cute husband indeed.
I grew up in a county with one snowplow. Talk about overreacting! "Aaaah! It's like grits in a fan!"
There was some overreaction here in Vancouver as well. Only about half the kids went to school, only about half the buses were on the road, and I heard a rumour the city had to call and ask to borrow Surrey's snowplow.
