Okay, so he's just at the airport preparing to leave the country right now, but that beloved husband of mine is heading for a week in Anaheim! (For a business trip. Because he now has a job where he takes business trips, for the first time ever. Yup, his first "business trip" ever is to California in November, on a day that's cold and rainy here. Doesn't it just burn you up?)
That means I have the house to myself all week. For a whole week, I'm going to have to remember to eat three meals a day and clean up after myself. Yes, I have become that pathetic.
While I've been making plans for how I'm going to work while Chris is gone (I usually schedule my work to stop when he gets home at work, but this week I'll have to find other ways to schedule myself), and so I'm again throwing things open for suggestions. (Because it's just me and you guys this week, baby.)
How should I structure my work schedule, for lack of the "I'll read when Chris is at work" schedule? I still want to keep it that I work during the day and rest in the evening, and so how should I spend my evenings? Any suggestions for fun ways to entertain myself?
I think I have one plan, which would never fly with Chris at home (he would complain that we "just watched it a year ago," not understanding that Meg and I used to watch it once per season): every day, for the next six days, I'm going to watch the A&E Pride and Prejudice for an hour a day. Although I confess that sometimes it'll be hard to stop at the hour mark. (See: Pemberley.)

Mmmm.... Pride & Prejudice. I"m about due for another viewing of that. (I watched both Bridget Jones' while doing house stuff this week, so that put me in the mood too.)
As far as what to do while Chris is away, I know you can go out when he's there, but Marc & I were commenting yesterday when we went to see Stranger than Fiction that we never made the most of the days b/f kids when we could go out anytime we wanted. So... I'd say, go out and make up whatever schedule you like while you have no one there to make a schedule for you. Then I can live vicariously through you! :)
P&P is always good.
You could always read a good, non-studies-related book, such as, say, John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Mean.
I am a bit of a slacker these days, so I have no suggestions for work or play, because when I don't get work done, I don't feel I deserve to play, except with Lucas because he needs to play, dammit.
Don't feel too jealous of Chris. Yes, the weather is better where he is. But my dad taught in Anaheim for 35 years, and I can assure you, it's not a city of palm trees, golden sand, and fresh sea breezes.
That should be A Prayer for Owen Meany
Not that it really matters...
I love how all the parents of small children jumped in with suggestions of how to spend my spare time. Yes, I am aware that I am in possession of a rare luxury.
Trillwing, thanks for the comforting that I'm not missing anything by having to stay home. (Although we can get palm trees, sand and sea breezes right here! Never mind that the beaches is rainy right now, the palm trees are kind of puny, and you should read "cold winds off the ocean" when I say "sea breezes".)
However, it would have been nice to escape the rain and cold for a week.
Ah. I can't watch that an hour at a time, ever. I have to watch at least 2-3 hours of it! I wish you much luck and much self control.
Go for a walk and find happy things. If it's cold and rainy, dress in a yello poncho and take a mug of hot chocolate, and go sing in a park and play on the swings or something. It'll be fun! :)
I recommend calling your friends who are currently on their internship and are really beginning to rack their brains as to why they ever thought it was a good idea to subject themselves to this torcher known as teaching. And watching old episodes of Batman somehow.
Derek out.
Derek -- I've been thinking about it, but can't find your phone number anywhere! Call me!
Mary- I am, for the first time, reading Pride and Prejudice, with the distinct plan that Meg and I will then watch the full A&E version as soon as we can work it in! I am loving it so far!
