At the hospital's Eye Centre

Today I switched roles from "Dutiful Bridesmaid" to "Dutiful Granddaughter, who drives her Grandma and mother to the hospital so that her grandma can get treatment for her macular degeneration." That role included cheerful (but not overwhelming) conversation before the treatment, to distract Grandma from her nervousness about the needle, and a lot of sitting in the waiting room while reading a book. It's funny what an effect medical waiting rooms have on me. There's something about them that compels me to drink coffee (I limited myself to a half a cup) and to engage seniors in conversation. I met an elderly couple who brought a 91-year-old sister in for tests, who have a daughter who lives near me in Victoria. Of course.

In other news, we bought my Dad a fantastic scanner for Father's Day, and now we've been scanning old slides into the computer. Here's one of a baby QoWP, hanging out with her other grandma (the one who lives up North):

My mother-in-law has macular degeneration, and that whole process of putting stuff into her eye with a needle does creep me out.

A scanner that can work with slides?

Oh, I so need one of those. All my photos up until I got a digital camera were slides ....

The needle in the eye thing was also creeping out my grandma, although she's doing alright now that it's over.

And I have nothing but good to say about the Canon 4200F. It scans two slides at a time, or an entire strip of negatives. And it automatically fixes cracks and scratches! This is way too awesome.
