QoWP: Missing Weddings and Birthdays since 2006

Right now, quite nearly everyone I know is at a wedding. This is the wedding of my cousin to a university friend of mine, people who know each other through me. (Okay, and also through Ky, because she went to high school with this guy, and I got to know him because he went to high school with Ky.) I've seen them at every stage of their relationship, and have given acres of relationship advice. And here I am, writing a Canadian history essay, while everyone else is there. It feels very surreal. It also feels very surreal not to be able to call anyone, because everyone I can think of? At the wedding.

Last night, I was drifting off to (much-needed) sleep, when my mind started to work again.

"What date did I put on that essay? Is it April 21st? Oh dear goodness. Yesterday was Wee Girlie's birthday. I missed her birthday."

Yup, my baby's three years old, as of Thursday. And I, the bad Auntie that I am, didn't order her present until this morning, and didn't talk to her until today. (Okay, so they're not at the wedding. I exaggerate.) But they knew that I was hardly sleeping, and am racing to the finish line, and WG's got birthday parties going all weekend, and so it's all good. On Tuesday, we're going to talk over webcams.

After she receives her present, remind me to tell you what I gave her. I'm a very clever auntie indeed.

Other realisation: as of next week, it'll be a year since I was her nanny.

Wow, I can't believe it was a year ago that you were Wee Girlie's nanny! I remember reading your blog posts about it back then and it just doesn't seem that long. How time flies...:)

So sorry you have to miss the wedding. Hopefully you'll get to see lots of wonderful photos?

We're back from the wedding. It was beautiful and fun. There were crayons at the tables so that we could draw all over the table cloth. That was cool. And Auntie Donna looked so nice. Saryn bought her a pretty burgundy dress that suited her to a tee. Or, to a ted as I put originally.
I'll stop commenting and just post my own blog.
Check you later.

I'm trying to picture who Dan is...I just found out last month she was even getting married. Does he have red hair?? Has he been to camp before?? I hate being in Penticton..I'm sooo out of the loop!

Kristin: yes, and yes. He's tall, with red hair and glasses.

Hello!! Who else wasn't at that wedding and would have loved a phone call to commiserate being absent (or at least to imagine what was happening)? *Unclean! Unclean!*

I still love you, Mary.

I did say "nearly" everyone! And I was working on my essay!

Apparently Derek and Nathan asked for a show a hands for who knew both Saryn and Dan long before they knew each other. My parents raised their hands. And we weren't even there.

It was sad that you weren't there: all of the "Fiddler on the Roof" references, and our Yentes with rhyming names were missing. Plus you missed Nathan taking on Norway. Sheer awesomeness.

Derek out.

Boo! I totally knew both Saryn and Dan pre-them meeting. I knew Dan from quizzing so I even knew him before you. And I totally put up my hand. I want credit too!!! And ohmygosh Mary, guess who else was there? The fourth member of the crazy and awkward IVCF camping trip we went on!!! And so were the couple who's cabin we stayed in. It was crazy.
