Everything's Coming Up Mary

Yup, I finished it, and handed it in, in time. The office closed at 4:30. I finished printing it off at 4:20. (Could the printer have taken any longer? I got entirely ready, found my purse, put on my shoes, grew a beard, shaved it off, had kids and watched them graduate, all in the time that the printer took to print 30 pages. And I chose "Fast Normal.") Chris and I ran out the door, and he got me to the University at 4:27. As I ran up the stairs, I could hear the assistant wheeling shut the big door over the front desk. But I get to use the "Authorized Personnel Only" side door. I wandered in and asked, "Eileen? Where do I hand in an essay?" by which I meant "Could you please stamp this to prove that it was handed in today?" And she gave me a paycheque.

Okay, so the essay's ending could have been more coherent. It kind of collapses at the end. But the paper holds together, mostly.

The day got even better when we picked up my friend Adana and took her out for supper. I haven't seen her in forever, and we had a really good time.

Now? You get to witness me research and write a 25 page essay by Monday at 6:00 pm! (Historiography of Canada in the 1970s).

Thank you all for cheering me on through that marathon. And I'm glad that I amaze you, Aspiring Academic.

Maryanne, you are a silly, silly person who likes to live dangerously...for a historian. Actually, your story could make for a compelling and suspenseful movie. You could be the Indiana Jones of historians!

Or perhaps I'm just rambling. I'm very glad you got your paper done, and I wish you good luck on the next one. I've got a Karlish one at my place currently, and in a little while we'll be leaving for the wedding of Saryn and Dan. We'll all miss you at it, but so it goes, sometimes.

Oh my lord! Can I just say, I am so glad that I never did finish my Masters and work on that philosophy Ph.D...

My head nearly exploded during the account of that last paper you were writing. And now you have another one?!!

I could not cope. I'm glad you can!!

Congratulations! One more to go! I love it when profs make you do a summary of your work, write something up, present your research halfway through the semester so that even if you're inclined to let yourself go to the wire, it's not half so bad. Otherwise I would have spent many a semester in gradschool racing to the finish.

Go speedracer!

Hooray for getting the paper done! Glad that you had at least a little time to relax and enjoy supper with your friend before getting down to the next one. It'll all be over soon... :)

Paper for paycheque - is that a bit like Oil for food?

Hooray! Here's to finishing the other one this weekend. And then celebrating. Can you take a break soon?? You deserve it.

I sure am taking a break, after this last one is done. Yes, I need to be formulating my comps lists and everything, but I'm allowed to take some time off and rest!
