Odd Ways to Wake Up #1

With a phone call from my former department head. He wanted to know to whom he should send the letter of appraisal. (At least I was a little coherent, because my alarm had been going off.)

Okay, so I guess it's not entirely weird: my old old department head (my Honours Advisor) used to always wake me up with phone calls, during the editing phase of my Honour's Paper, about scheduling appointments and questions about my paper. However, I got used to that with HA, because he went to the U eaaaaaaaaaaarly to do work like that.

Note to self: if I normally got up before 8:30 am, I wouldn't be flustered by phone calls/Telus service people.

There is a great joy that comes from phoning someone early and listening to them pretend that they did not just wake up.

Note: The best opening sentence is:
"I hope that I didn't wake you."

To which I reply "Oh no! No! I've been awake for a while now."

Pure evil.

See, what the sleeper fails to realize is that it actually has been some time since this question was posed. For example:

(phone rings twelve times)
Sleeper: Uhhhhh, hello??

Early: This is so and so. I hope...

Late: (pause)...uhhhhh...
(time seems to have no meaning, all you can remember is that some guys you know were making fun of your shrinking clothing...and dancing you remember dancing...) ...uhhh... (then it hits you. That was all just a dream...)
Oh!! No! I have been awake etc.

The above of course is supplemented by silent laughter on the other line...

And we all know who's the best at silently laughing at people. At laughing at them out loud, for that matter.

Cramsey: those clothes? Leave nothing to the imagination.

I have one person who regularily calls at 11am. And seems shocked that she woke me up. I pretend to be shocked that I am still asleep.

You pretend to have been awake? I don't. Someone from my church (which meets 5:00 Sunday evenings) called me at 9:14 AM this past Sunday. He was surprised he woke me up, but unapologetic. I would be too if I caught people sleeping in.

Derek out.
