Begin the Procrastination...

I held out for so long, but how could I resist the sweet sweet opportunity for more time-suckage? And so, we now begin the (rather clumsy and inexperienced) blogging.

As should be apparent by the description at the top of your page, I am currently trying to write my MA thesis on German history, in this blastedly cold province of Saskatchewan. I shall quickly paint you a picture of what this grad school life of mine is like (it's not all wacky times at a pizza parlour, much as Ryan Reynolds and Richard Ruccolo led me to believe in "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place"). It's 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon, and I'm currently in my pyjamas and a bunnyhug (some call these "hoodies," but you're in Saskatchewan now, my friend), sitting next to my roommate's boyfriend (also one of my best friends, and that recurring character that lives down the street and spends all his spare time at our house -- our "Sharon" to Meg's "Pete, whatever season it was when Pete and Sharon dated" and my "Berg"). It's not that I slept in from a wild night of Friday night partying. No, sir. I had an evening of watching Back To the Future II (awesome -- I always root for the second installment of trilogies) with married friends, after they put their adorable daughter to bed, and then came home to watching Arlington Road with the members of our Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship group who still felt like hanging out after the Friday night event (which I missed to watch BTTFII). Today's work on the thesis (while I have gotten lots of work done this week, I confess) has consisted of taking out the laptop, and setting it on my lap. No wait, out of guilt I've now opened my "Thesis Outline" file.

I am currently procratinating from:
  • Finishing the outline, and moving on to actually writing the first chapter of this thesis;
  • Planning my wedding, set for July 16, 2005;
  • Getting dressed for the day;
  • Vaccuuming;
  • Learning German.

I am currently reading: The Artificial Silk Girl, by Irmgard Keun

I wish I was reading: Emma by Jane Austen (in my drive for procrastination, I've read through a few Austen books lately -- they're even better than when I read them in high school!)

This Christmas I read: Persuasion, by Jane Austen; Eats, Shoots, and Leaves by Lynne Truss

Song stuck in my head: "I Know" by Jude

I'm most thankful for: my parents, who fixed my car; and for the chocolate that people gave me for Christmas.

I just geeked out by: explaining German pronunciation to my roommate.

Dude, Sharon and Pete never dated. Remember the episode when we find out about Berg's favouite shirt aka the shirt of love and inderstanding aka the shirt of fun and good times aka the shirt of manilness and virility? We find out that both Pete and Berg were interested in Sharon when they first met her but neither dated her. If Karl is Sharon then Meg would have to be Johnny or if Meg were Pete then Karl would be Marti.
