Friday Baby Bunny Blogging
Yesterday was sunny and all the baby bunnies were out. I also managed to remember to bring my camera, which never happens. (My cellphone is full of blurry bunny pictures.)
One of my facebook friend's status updates said that she just found out that they kill them at night. I know that they used to have a reading week exterminator program. They end up being pests... eat everyone's lawns.
The babies are awfully cute though. I definitely have a blurry pic on my phone from just the other day.
eventhere: They stopped doing the killing program for a few years, because people were upset about them killing the bunnies, but that went badly. Last month, they announced that the alternative population-management programs didn't work out and that "eventually" they would start culling again, but that they wouldn't announce when it was happening so that people wouldn't get upset. I assumed that it had started, and that it was probably happening at night.
Thanks for the update! I'm a farm girl... I know you need to get rid of pests. I think it's fantastic when people suggest Rabbit Stew (just not the pets I had as a kid, if I could help it...) other than the fact that they are the campus equivalent of rats... Is that too harsh?

Seeing the UVic bunnies just makes me sad that I can't afford to come visit. I miss the bunnies.
They are so cute. How many "wild" rabbits at UVic? Any estimates?
Uncle Al: According to this recent CBC story, the estimate is at 1300.

That photo brings back memories! I had such a good time on your campus.
Thanks for the update!
