We ended up spending the late afternoon at Chris's school after all. He was feeling much better and really wanted to get some cleaning up done in his classroom before "Meet the Teacher Night" on Monday. I went along and helped, and then afterwards we ran over to Superstore (because it's so close to his work), to get some groceries.
Money's been tight for so long that I haven't really enjoyed grocery shopping. We're always on a limited budget and can only buy a few things at a time, or so it feels. But money's a little easier, now that Chris has the new job and has been paid once, and especially now that we just got back the rest of our tax refund. Sure, most of the tax money went straight to the credit card, but we left a little so that we could have one really good grocery shop.
I guess it's a sign that I've adjusted a little too well to living on a tight budget, that it feels absolutely luxurious to go out and buy a few non-essentials. Goodness, it felt extravagant just to browse around Superstore, instead of setting our jaws and only looking at what's on our list. We paused by the Joe collection clothes and I cooed over the Fall clothes. (Verdict: Cute! But too much wool, and I'm allergic.) We looked at their new Indian food and decided to try out that naan bread that's been in all those commercials. You know, in many ways it was a relief to be able to go over the shopping list and ask Chris (the keeper of the budget), "Can we try their Indian food?" and to have him say "Yes" without even hesitating.
I must be horrifically shallow, because nothing has improved my mood better than that tiny bit of retail therapy. Apparently, the easiest way to make me happy is to let me buy a bit of naan, some packets of butter chicken mix, and a box of tea.

Oh, I understand that joy in letting yourself go a little bit crazy at the grocery. I haven't tried the new naan bread, yet, though I've seen all those commercials, too. My big indulgence the last time at the grocery store was to pick up some of their pre-made pizza crust to make bruschetta.
I have the HUGEST crush on the dorky guy in those commercials. He's adorable!!!
You mean Galen Weston Jr.? Did you just refer to a billionaire (or at least the heir of a billionaire) as "the dorky guy in those commercials"? You have no idea how happy that makes me.
