Re-Adjust

Apparently, sometimes my brain doesn't adapt quickly to a change of plans. I make my own plans, and then when they don't work out, I have a hissy fit and sulk for at least a day. Chris and I had made all of our Christmas plans, including allergy re-testing on the 27th and 28th, and my cousin's wedding on the 29th. We had to be in Saskatchewan between December 22nd and January 1st.

And then Chris called home with the news that all of the trainers at his work (including himself) would be booked solid that week, and therefore couldn't sub for each other.

I was more than a little upset. I felt like I had to choose between missing out on Christmas (and allergy testing, and Kara's wedding...) at home and leaving my husband alone for the holidays. (I liked neither of these options. Both of us especially disliked the latter option, and I asserted that there was no way I was leaving Chris alone for Christmas.) Then we came up with the acceptable third option: Chris taking the week after that off (his work would allow that, because his particular training group would finish on the 29th), and so I'd fly out on Boxing Day (so that I make it for my appointments and the wedding), and he flies out after work on the 29th. Only three days apart, and we spend Christmas together here. We'd still get to make it to Chris's family's New Years Eve get-together. In fact, going that following week (you know, the one when classes start again) would make it easier to see any of our friends who usually go other places for the holidays.

And yet, even though we figured out a new plan, it still took me an extra day to adjust. An extra day of being a little weepy and of humming "I'll Be Home For Christmas" to myself.

(Don't worry, I'm back to normal now.)

And so, to anyone back home: time to mark your calendars for the official dates that Chris and I are home. (We haven't booked the tickets yet, and Chris will find out today whether he's for sure getting those days off.) I'm in the province (and mostly in Regina) from the 26th to January 7th. Chris is in town from the 29th to January 7th.

(Odd side note: I think the bread that I just turned into French Toast has rosemary in it. Do you know what's a weird combination? Herbs and corn syrup.)

I hope to see you both. I should be in Regina from some date before Christmas until early January, so that means we may just bump into one another.

Maybe for, like, a day. It depends on how things work out.
