How I Spent My Valentine's Day

(If I haven't gone to sleep yet, it still counts as "today," right?)

  • Read madly and wrote a response, just in time to hand it in.
  • Got an allergy shot. The nurse wished me a happy Valentine's Day and was amused by my plans for the evening. ("My husband and I are going to a movie with my cousin.")
  • Debated the constructed nature of gender in historiography.
  • Went to Nanny McPhee with Chris and Ky. Were the only ones laughing uproariously at certain parts. Awesome.
  • Rented The Delicate Art of Parking, because Rogers didn't have RKO 281. Vowed that, someday, we would finally see that movie. Because, seriously, Ky and I have planned on watching it for years.
  • Missed Valentine's Day fondue parties at Mark and Terra's. Realised that, what with the 10-day-old baby and all, they're probably not fonduing today.
  • Stayed up too late.

How I've spent my week, so far:

  • Discovering kumquats. (They look like tiny oranges, but you eat the peels! The peels are the sweetest part, and if you roll the whole thing between your fingers, the oils from the peels sweeten the tart fruit inside.) And avacadoes.
  • Reading on the futon with Ky, listening to crazy music and taking digital photos of ourselves.
  • Singing along with "I'm the One Who Wants to Be With You" by Mr. Big.
  • Making guacamole.
  • Arguing Foucault.
  • Walking to the ocean. Taking the "following our hearts" route, which ended us up on a golf course and taking way longer than expected.
  • Re-discovering For Better or For Worse.
  • Getting as many high-fives as my compulsive little heart desires.
  • Staying up too late.

That song is so very grade 6. For two years in a row, like every girl who thought herself to be a singer sang that song at the school talent show.

Meh. It was never so much in my immediate space to be in danger of getting stuck in my head. Instead, this one's for Meg: "We've got a great big convoy, truckin' through the night..."
