My favourite time of the day

Every day, late in the afternoon, the girl upstairs practises the piano. She plays beautifully, and she's really advancing. When we first moved in, she was working through a conservatory book that I used to play from (so very long ago). Now, she's way past that.

Sometimes she practises conservatory-type classical music, and lately she also plays from a book of "popular" music that she clearly got for Christmas (she was playing "Moon River," and now she's playing "Imagine"). Before Christmas, she'd also accompany her little brother (who plays trumpet) with Christmas carols.

I was talking with Joyce about this (I asked her who it was that plays so beautifully), and Joyce was so apologetic: she makes sure that the kids only practise in the late afternoon (when we're not likely to be napping or working on homework, as Joyce is convinced that we are always conducting important business and must not be disturbed, bless her heart). I made it clear to Joyce that I'm never bothered by her children practising their instruments. Especially when her daughter plays the piano; then, I sit in the fading daylight and listen, and my heart soars with the music.

Oooh, I want to hear her play Moon River. That song's become one of my latest obsessions... it would sound so pretty, I'm sure!
