Comfort Food for a Drizzly Day

This afternoon turned cold and drizzly, which prompted me to make warm comfort food for supper. Other than tea and hot chocolate, this meat sauce is clearly my most favourite comfort food (I found it in the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, but I continually adapt it):
  • Brown a pound of ground beef in a frying pan.
  • Drain the beef, and then add a can of tomato soup and a can of mushroom soup. If you don't have tomato soup, either ketchup or pasta sauce work fine (if you're using pasta sauce, then cut back on the seasonings).
  • Add a generous amount of (a tablespoon each? I just eyeball this part) Italian seasoning and Cayenne Pepper, some black pepper, and possibly a couple of drops of hot sauce.
  • Stir, over medium heat, until you bring the whole thing to a boil. Then simmer covered for about fifteen minutes, and serve in a fun bowl with either rotini or shell pasta. You can also add green beans, or some other kind of vegetable, mixed in with it.

I can eat this stuff forever and ever. (Well, sometimes we make it hotter, for Chris, and then I can't eat is in quite the huge quantities as I can without the hot sauce.) I think it reminds me of my Mom's beef stroganoff, which is why it's so comforting for me.

So, what about you? What's your comfort food? (I'd also list chips, and quite often chocolate.)

Sushi. And popcorn. Probably not at the same time, though.

I'd have to say... chocolate. And baking. Even better, chocolate baking.

I have to go with Lyn. People die in our family and the province's sales for Cheese Puffs go up.

Also, a good comfort food for me is tomato soup and grilled cheese. Reminds me of every Sunday afternoon of my childhood.

Tomato soup with macaroni noodles in it. My dad used to make it all the time.
