West Coast Musings

Well, one West Coast musing and one QoWP Stamp of Approval!

First the musing: here is different from home. (Isn't that a new thought for this blog?) I was very amused by that re-realisation this afternoon, while waiting at the University walk-in clinic. I picked up a pamphlet made by the UVic Chaplain services and realised how many different religions get a chaplain here: Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Wiccan. Yes, there is a Wiccan chaplain. At U of R, you have a choice between Lutheran (actually, she's Anglican, but she's the chaplain for the Lutheran college) and Catholic. And all the chaplains here share an office (an e-mail address).

So, I totally want to visit the chaplains' office and see how wacky it is there. And then I want to make a sitcom about it.

Next: the Queen of West Procrastination's Stamp (thud) of Approval!

Which is awarded to the UVic's Medical Clinic. I went there to get an allergy shot today, and they're fantastic! They had me sit down with the doctor, to explain my shots and to put together a file for me (as a result, he faxed my allergist, to get more information, because he's really interested in understanding my treatments better), and then the nurse was so sweet! She was thrilled to give a shot intradermally, because she used to do allergy testing, and these kind of shots are her favourite. She's totally an artist about them (she took a moment to admire her handiwork). Apparently, other kinds of allergy shots (given in larger doses) aren't given this way. (They slip the needle just under the skin and make a bump with the serum; that way it seeps in slower and doesn't hurt.)

Edited to add: I just checked out the Chaplaincy website and these are the faiths/denominations that have a chaplain at the moment: Buddhist, Catholic, Christian Science, Jewish, Lutheran, Orthodox, Pentecostal, Salvation Army, Wiccan.

I hereby revoke your English degree and all your TA duties. I'm allowed to do that, you know. (Sometimes Janice revokes Chris's B.Ed.)

Ky!! I was just going to comment on how weird it is that salvation army is a faith. Maybe it's a cult, and they're trying to promote it as a 'faith'. all hail the discount items!

Maryanne, I realized that Salvation Army is a denomination (C'mon, I've seen "Guys and Dolls"). However, to call it a "faith" is highly bizarre.

No, I revoked your degree for not knowing how to spell "weird." I, on the other hand, find it hilarious that there's a Christian Science chaplain on a campus that has a med school.

Oh, right. Bad spelling. Got it.

I'm a fool.

I revoke my degrees.

So you have revoked your master's degree before you completed? I guess that means you might as well not try anymore. I commmand you to immediately come over to my house and watch Arrested Development.

Crap, Janice. Don't tempt me.
