Choices

Okay, so I'm home alone, at the beginning of one of my customary long weekends (nothing now until I lead seminar at 1:00pm on Monday). I'll work on homework soon enough, but maybe I should first take advantage of this time alone by watching something Chris would never watch with me. That means I have a choice:

a.) Sense and Sensibility with the commentary by Emma Thomspon and Lindsay Doran;
b.) Newsies, seeing as I keep talking about it so much lately.

I was leaning towards b.) until I looked at that list again. I have never watched the Thompsan and Doran commentary... but I was planning on watching Newsies just for its background characters! Hm. This is difficult.

And, to update you on Chris's job situation, and to explain why I'm planning so heavily what might be my last (or second-last) evening alone, Chris got offered the better call centre job, this morning!

Starting on Monday, he'll be going through eight weeks' worth of paid training (five weeks of classroom and three weeks of training on the job). Once he's done training, he'll be working their morning shift (5:00am-1:00pm), which suits us fine, because I'd far rather spend my mornings alone than my evenings, and Chris is happiest as a morning person. His days off will be Monday and Tuesday, but they give him Sunday morning off for church, and then we works Sunday afternoon instead. Full time work, with time off for church and prayer meeting! (I'll have to call the church ladies and update them, because they were praying hard this morning that this would all work out.) As well, this company has an incentives program, where they give you a bonus every time your efficiency is good (in the top 30%-$2/hr bonus, next 10% lower-$1.50/hr bonus, next 10% lower-$1/hr bonus). Knowing Chris, this could be a very good thing. AND after three months we'll be on full benefits (including 100% dental!) and they'll pay for any university classes he chooses to take, reimbursing him when he passes them! (That's really tempting -- we're talking about finding a computer programming class for him to take next semester.)

So, he's giving his notice at work today, and so I'm not sure whether or not he's working tomorrow. This is all very good, and it makes me very happy. This will keep us stable until we can find him something more in his field.

Maybe I should call my mother and mother-in-law before I start any movie-watching.

Dude, I hope you went with Sense and Sensibility. Doran and Thompson are pee-your-pants funny.

Congratulations! Huzzah! Hip Hip Hooray! I'm happy for you. And I sound like a Hallmark greetings card.

Good news. Congrats Chris! Oh, and Chris's blog doesn't seem to be working...when are the squirrels coming?

Well, Matt, the squirrels will probably be up this weekend. That will be the last bit of free time he'll have for the next week, because he'll have to finish up his hours with the old job (late afternoon and evenings) while he starts training at the new job (mornings and early afternoons). That will mean sweet money, but tired Christopher.

And I ended up watching S&S commentary yesterday evening, and now I'm getting through Newsies. Compromise.
