Okay, I swear this is the last thing before I get back to work. Really.
I'm going to enrage Matt by using the word "meme" again. Because I keep seeing this around, and I think this is appropriate for me to fill out (and we really need to hear from my sister, and my pseudo-sisters here -- I'm talking to Ky and Lyn, since Bronwyn and Amanda already did this -- on this issue):
Of the movies in your current dvd or vhs collection, name seven (in no particular order) that you have watched enough times to make your friends suspect that there might be something wrong with you but that you can't imagine not watching again:
(My note: these aren't necessarily the best movies I've ever seen. These are the movies that I could watch a million times, and that make me so happy that I don't care that I could just quote you the entire film anyway.)
#1 - Newsies. This one is so far also on Amanda and Bronwyn's lists, and I know several others who would have this on their lists as well. This is The Best Movie Ever, as long as you aren't watching it with someone who hasn't seen it before, who points out that a.) there are a lot of problems with the movie; b.) I fast forward through most of it anyway (anything with old people/Sarah/Ann-Margaret); c.) I could pretty much act out the movie anyway, and why do I know all these things about actors who haven't made anything of importance since the 90s! You may all shut up instantly. Best Movie Ever.
#2 - Sense and Sensibility. I should never have admitted to my husband that I own the screenplay with Emma Thompson's diaries, nor should I have mentioned the number of times I've read said diaries. He feels way more justified in his Trekkiness now. Again: I can act out this movie, if you wish. But everyone's fantastic in it and I get excited every time.
#3 - Little Women (the 1995 version). I can't tell you how many times I've watched this. I'm always in the mood to watch it. If I'm feeling sappy or restless, I'll cry through half the movie. I'd get especially worked up when Jo freaks out about not knowing what she wants to do with her life, because she's incapable of living a normal life. I think this is my New York, in spite of the fact that I've already found my Prof. Baehr.
#4 - Breakfast at Tiffany's. Boy, am I ever girly when it comes to movies I watch a lot! It's the day when they do whatever they've never done before that always gets me. Love love love it. Not to mention the fact that Audrey Hepburn is so awesome it makes my brain hurt.
#5 - You've Got Mail. I can't help but love this movie. This is the sort of movie that I watch on a Sunday afternoon while I half-nap and eat cold Chinese food. Okay, I love other movies that blow me away and change the way I look at things, but deep down, I enjoy its cheerfulness. It's like an hour and a half with Ariann, bubbling about how daisies are the friendliest flower and about flour that's always in the air and never settles.
#6 - What To Do In Case Of Fire. This is my latest -- I can't get enough of it. Other people who feel like watching something they haven't seen a million times, preferably something without subtitles? Not necessarily so pleased with me. "Yes, I get it, QoWP: this is a fascinating portrayal of the political tensions of reunified Berlin. Yes, I get it, QoWP: Maik used to be an anarchist and now he wears an 'I [heart] Bill Gates' t-shirt."
#7 - tie between Casablanca and the cartoon of Robin Hood. I make endless references to them. Especially Robin Hood.

Yay for Newsies!! Best movie ever!
What the H? I mean, I really shouldn't bother even doing this meme. half of the movies on your list are on mine, too. We're ridiculous. But I'm probably gonna do it anyway and give my version of why Newsies is a great but incredibly stupid film.
Really Maryanne, you make me sound like a raving lunatic. The use of 'meme' does not enrage me, I just think it has been badly overused, and has been turned into something of a buzzword.
But, to participate in your meme:
1) Blues Brothers (on VHS)
2) Harvey
3) Fight Club
4) Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
5) Blues Brothers (on DVD)
6) 10 Ten Things I Hate About You
7) ?
And who do you have to thank for introducing you to German anarchists??!
I don't know what it is but I just really like German movies:
What to do in case of fire
Run, Lola, Run
Goodbye Lenin
Oh yah, I just watched Serenity last night. Awesome SciFi movie.
Man, German movies are great, aren't they? However, like Hollywood, Germany can occasionally produce craptacular movies, too. Do not EVER watch The Princess and the Warrior.
