Ack!

Will I ever catch up? Today I check my university webmail and discover that I missed the deadline for TA applications: at the UVic, you have to apply for a specific TA position, even if you have a TAship. I'm still figuring out how it all works.

And so, I finally called the graduate secretary, and I finally explained to her my situation. She told me some good news: it shouldn't be a problem for me to defend at the beginning of September. I'd just better be back by the 9th, when there is an important orientation that TAs can't miss. But registration goes on through most of September, and I should be fine. Hooray!

But she also told me that the graduate chair is currently assigning TA positions, meaning that if I want one, I should e-mail her immediately! Geeearr. I hate being that person. But I sent the e-mail.

Next priorities:
1. Work on that German! And then talk to the graduate secretary again, and try to wheedle her into letting me take the March language test, instead of September.
2. Do all the University name change stuff! And credit card. I need to fax a form to the Saskatchewan government, in order to get a copy of our marriage certificate, in order to do all this.

In other news, I've been amusing myself by peppering my language with archaisms. I keep claiming that I have "the vapours." This drives my scientific husband crazy, almost as much as when I once informed him,"Angels bring my e-mail to my computer! It's a miracle every time." (This followed a claim that anything technical that I don't understand works on "magic." Not that I actually believe these things, or don't have an inquiring mind and get driven crazy by illogic, but it's fun to do that to Chris.) I also recently claimed that something was the result of a "papist plot." That was my favourite.

Papist plot! Thou hast made my day.

Was it done at the behest of the papacy?

Sprit.

My sister is cute. You need to blame the little man inside your computer too.

The man in the box? But then I would sound like I was paying attention when my sister took a class on computer hardware. Oh, man in the box.

Is it just me, or is it still weird to hear you referring to your "husband?"

Derek out.
